WHED
The Women’s Health Education and Development organization (WHED) is run by Dr. Irene Patrick-Ogbogu. It is a non governmental organization (NGO) that focuses on:
- Providing information and education for people who are sexually active, and those who may participate in risky sexual behavior (such as having multiple sexual partners, having sex without a condom and so on) on HIV/AIDS/STI’s prevention and control
- Improving the reproductive health of deprived and marginalized women and raising their awareness on the benefits of family planning
- Establishing functional literacy and economic development programs for female sex workers with the aim of providing livelihood alternatives for them
- Research in the AIDS/HIV development
- Women empowerment, women rights, networking and coalition development.
With the money donated to WHED by AIPA, the organization hosted a four day workshop in Abuja for out of school youth to educate them on the HIV/AIDS and behaviour change. The objectives of the workshop are:
- To improve knowledge of participants on HIV/AIDS issues.
- To assist participants in exploring their attitudes around sex and sexuality issues especially in relation to HIV/AIDS programming.
- To improve participants knowledge and skills on HIV prevention strategies.
- To heighten participants’ knowledge and sensitivity on the relationship between HIV/AIDS and gender, HIV/AIDS and human rights as well as HIV/AIDS and Development.
